  • St Catherine Monastery & Dahab- is one of the oldest Christian monasteries. During your stay in the monastery, you will see and learn the history of the complex of the monastery: thorn Bush and the chapel of the Burning Bush, the Well of Moses, the Basilica of the Transfiguration-the main temple of the monastery, the crypt and cemetery, the Library and the monastery garden.
  • St Catherine Monastery & Dahab – Greek Orthodox monastery, was built between 548 and 565 ad. according to legend, the body of Catherine, soon after the Martyr’s death (execution), for the Christian faith, disappeared, and miraculously was transferred by angels to the highest point of the Sinai mountains, which now bears her name. Three centuries later, at the behest of a vision, several monks from the Sinai monastery found her body and buried it in a sarcophagus.
  • The most sacred place in the monastery is the chapel of the Burning Bush (built by St. Helena, at the request of her son, Emperor Constantine), and then the monastery of St. Catherine grew on this site.
  • The Orthodox monastery, in the center of Islam, has survived to the present day without looting and fires.

What to Expect:
Excursion Overview:
  • Pick you up, from the hotel, on a comfortable minibus, about 5: 45 am. Travel time is about 3 hours, along the picturesque mountains and desert.
  • First, you go to the morning service in the operating Church “Basilica of the Transfiguration”, located on the territory of the monastery. After the service in the Church, You will have the opportunity to venerate the relics of St. Catherine and receive the consecrated ring.
  • Next, you will see-Bush Burning Bush (mentioned in the Book of Exodus) – in the flame of which the Lord appeared before Moses (herding sheep in the desert, near the mountain Decalogue (the Law of God), on top of which God gave the “10 Commandments” to Moses.
  • And when Moses came to the Bush to see, “why the Bush burns with fire, but does not burn,” he called to him, to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt into the Promised land. This sacred Bush was subsequently moved a few meters into the courtyard of the monastery, and on the former site built the chapel of the Annunciation or Burning Bush (located behind the altar of the Basilica of the Transfiguration) with a silver star indicating the place where the roots of the Bush came out of the ground.
Excursion itinerary:
Pick up:
  • From your hotel (around 7:30 am depends on the Hotel location in Sharm) to drive two and a half hours to get o the monastery of St. Catherine.
Moses Mountain: 
  • The first stop you will visit the burning bush and Moses Mountain also known as mountain Sinai which is almost 2280m above the sea level, the place holds a great significance and it represents the greatness of god’s word to the prophet Moses.
The Monastery of St Catherine:
  • You will be escorted to the monastery and your guide for the day will take you for an amazing tour inside the monastery where you can take some photos of this magnificent culture that has been built hundreds of years ago. It lies on the Sinai Peninsula, at the mouth of a gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai in the city of Saint Catherine in Egypt.
  • The monastery is Orthodox and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This monastery is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world together with the Monastery of Saint Anthony, situated across the Red Sea in the desert south of Cairo, which also lays claim to that title.
  • The monastery was built by order of Emperor Justinian I (reigned 527-565), enclosing the Chapel of the Burning Bush ordered to be built by Helena, the mother of Constantine I, at the site where Moses is supposed to have seen the burning bush; the living bush on the grounds is purportedly the original. It is also referred to as “St. Helen”s Chapel.” The site is sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Lunch & Free Time:
  • We sill take almost 1 hour and 20 minutes at one of the restaurants nearby to have lunch and regroup to head back to Sharm .
Drive back to Sharm El Sheikh:
  • By the end of the day, you’ll be escorted back to Sharm El-Sheikh enjoying the nature of the Sinai desert all the way down to your hotel.
